Random Thoughts

Day 28-Random Thoughts

The community newspaper, the Magna Times

Sits near me as I contemplate its stories

One is extolling the virtues of small papers

Community newspapers are showing growth

While the larger dailies are in decline

Even Fox 13's Good Day Utah has a segment

Devoted to stories from local newspapers

I for one, do not want to see this stop

Stories of our neighbors are a window

Into everyday life all around us

Day 28

Day 28-Clerihew

We have a brother who's name is Jamie
The youngest leaf on our Family Tree
But when we were little, he was confused
So Gicki and de udder Gicki were what he used

Day 27

Poem in Your Pocket Day

Take some time on this very special day

To find a favorite poem for a fun holiday

It may be one that makes you laugh or smile

Or even one that makes you think a while

It can be one you've written yourself

Or one you find upon a Library shelf

Just keep it with you throughout the day

Then share with those who come your way.

Day 26

Day 26-Senses Poem

Dark clouds overhead
Rain touching the ground
Patter of raindrops on my umbrella
Wind blowing my hair
Moisture in the air
Love a good Spring rainstorm

Day 25

Day 25-Acrostic Poem

Grandchildren

Goodness for your heart

Romping in your house

Asking you millions of questions

Never afraid of a mouse

Doesn't hold back love

Couldn't if they tried

Heaven's gift from above

Inching up to my height

Loves to sit on laps

Dreams of what to be

Reaches arms up for hugs

Ever gives you kisses

Now and forever more

Day 24

Day 24-Nonet poem

As this Monday gets off to a start
I have to keep thinking of things
To write and excite myself
And others around me
So a Nonet comes
Out of my mind
And my heart
And my
Love

Day 23

Day 23-Sonnet

Oh, how to write a sonnet
When thou art living right
''Tis good to have no ill regrets
Then thine outlook will be bright

Perchance thou wilt have sore trials
With lessons to be learned
Remember life is fragile
But blessings can be earned

Live each day to its fullest
Then thou wilt live it well
Thine heart shalt swell within thy breast
Of this I can foretell

Our goal is Celestial Glory
And thus ends thy life's story

Day 19

Day 19- monorhyme

Music of Poetry

Writing a poem is like writing a song

There are times it won't take so very long

Some you write to help others be strong

They can even be as pretty as a fawn

Or as simple as a lovely cradlesong

And this will carry me all my lifelong.

Day 19

Day18-Monorhyme

It's so much fun to make things rhyme

I like to do it all the time

I hope you don't think that's it's a crime

You won't even have to pay a dime!

Day 17

Day 17-Personification Poem

I love our new refrigerator
He's tall, dark, handsome, and big
He'll freeze your food so cold
And make you dance a jig!

He's strong and full of life
He'll be forever ready
To never give us strife
Maybe we'll name him Freddie!

Day 16

                Day 16-Rictameter

                       Springtime
                      Life renewal
                  Forever renewing
Just as planned in our creation
The Plan our Heavenly Father gave us
        His children's glorious promise
                Our lives are eternal
                     We will return
                         Springtime

Extra

I wrote this one today. It took me a while. It's actually two triplets.

We have birthdays in April

For that we are very grateful

And this is truly fateful

Before our kids got married

April just got buried

Now life is topsy-turvied!!

Day 14

Day 14-Triplet Poem

Spring has sprung it's true
The sky outside is blue
The grass is green and new

Day 13

Day 13-Tan-Renga Poem

Being a grandparent

Is a parent's reward for

Raising our children

Hugs, happiness, memories

All is sublimely Heaven

In this kind of poem, it's a combined effort with a partner. I wrote the first 3 lines and my husband, Peter, wrote the last two.

What do you call an overpriced musical instrument?
Guitar Afar

What do you call a fancy camera?
Photo Gizmo

What do you call a fabric obsession?
Quilt Guilt

Day 11

Day 11-I Am poem

I am loyal and loving
I wonder if I can make a difference in the world
I hear the drums of change
I see love all around
I want for each person to feel loved
I am loyal and loving

I pretend I can do things better than I really can
I feel that I am a strong, vibrant woman
I touch the faces of all who are suffering
I worry it won't be enough
I am loyal and loving

I understand it won't change overnight
I say I love each soul
I dream of all people feeling my love
I try to show my love each day
I hope to make a change
I am loyal and loving

Day 10

Day 10- Grammer Poem

Quilting
Challenging and relaxing
Colors and fabrics to carefully choose from
Like and artist with a palette
If only I had more time to do it!

Day 9

Day 9-Tanka Poem

A Grandson's blessing

What a wonderful event

To be a part of

Grandchildren are so precious

We hold them close and cuddle

Day 8

Another one for today

Scriptures are poetic in so many ways

So it makes me marvel as I pray

For the inspired men who wrote them

To guide and direct us in the Latter-Days

If we will but read them and learn their worth

We'll be given guidance while in our youth

These words are so very important to all

Remember to learn them while here on earth

Day 8

Day 8-Free Verse

Life is like a roller coaster

There are too many hills and valleys to count

But that's what make life and roller coasters fun!

How exciting would either be if they went nowhere?

Day 7

This is my tribute to Don Rickles who died yesterday at the age of 90.

Day 7- Alliteration Poem

There never was a funnier man
Then the fabulous friendly Don Rickles
He could get a ferocious titter
and his audience atwitter
By kissing Ol' Blue Eyes for giggles.

He'll always be Mr. Potato Head to me
With his persnickety pretty partner Mrs P
Whenever they got in a pickle
He'd give us a tickle
With his perfectly placed repartee.

Day 6

Day 6- If I Were and If You Were Poems

If I were a photograph and you were a camera
I'd want you to develop my image so glamorous!

If you were a book to read and I was a Library
I'd find you on my shelves and not in a cemetery!
