Day 15 Ode Poem
An Ode to Poetry
Oh, Poetry, sweet Poetry
What would we do without it?
It urges us to think and laugh
It’s sometimes silly, sometimes sad
It sings to us of greater joys
It tells us stories sublime
It reminds us of our lost loves
Sometimes brought to our knees
Our tears freely flowing
Oh, Poetry, sweet Poetry!
As children we learn to write
Our letters look scattywhompus
The we are taught to read
To make sense of the world around us
Simple stories written in rhyme
To never be forgotten
Such as Jack and Jill went up a hill
And Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall
The beat of the rhythms inside us
Oh, Poetry Sweet, Poetry!
Then as we mature we grapple
With all that the world has to offer
We ponder and consider our thoughts
We hear music in our memories and souls
Through the poems and songs we gleaned
To help ourselves and others along
Ever the beat of our lives
It gives us meaning and purpose
Oh, Poetry, sweet Poetry!
